Project progress

The most extensive transport project of Thessaloniki, a modern Metro network of high aesthetics, comes to life. More than 650 persons of various disciplines work on a daily basis for Thessaloniki Metro, while a total of 16 worksite areas have been developed throughout the city by the contracting Joint Venture.

Thessaloniki Metro, a 9.6 km network, shall have 13 modern stations, 18 fully automatic and air-conditioned trains, as well as platform screen doors in all stations, ensuring the provision of the optimum services to the passengers and their maximum safety. A 50,000 m2 depot is also foreseen in the area of Pylea.

It is worth pointing out that by incorporating state-of-the-art technical features in combination with the most stringent quality and operability standards, Thessaloniki Metro shall become the most advanced Metro network in Europe.

PROGRESS OF WORKS

May 2016

  • Dimokratias Crossover: The works for the installation of struts at the final level are in progress.
  • DIMOKRATIAS Station: Completion of excavation works at level -2 of the station. In progress is the construction of slab -2. Moreover, in progress is the archaeological excavation of the northern access, the northern ventilation shaft and the emergency exit.
  • SINTRIVANI Station – REPORT: The Station excavation works were completed. In progress is the construction of foundation micropiles and the excavation of the northern access.
  • PAPAFI Station: The works for the excavation and the construction of foundation micropiles were completed. In progress are the works for the construction of the invert slab.
  • VOULGARI Station: The works for the construction of retaining micropiles were completed. In progress are the works for the construction of diaphragm walls and PUO network diversions.
  • NEA ELVETIA Station & Crossover: The works for the construction of temporary retaining anchors are in progress.
  • DEPOT: At the building complex I, is progress are the works for the construction of the roof slab at the ground floor and the installation of propping at the 1st floor, as well as the construction of the metal part of the building. At building complex II, in progress is the construction of the OCC bearing structure at buildings 2 and 9. Moreover, in progress is the construction of retaining walls and pile cladding walls, as well as the archaeological excavation in the surrounding area.
  • Cut and Cover Tunnel: The construction of the retaining piles and the cap beams of the tunnel is in progress. Moreover, excavation works and works for the installation of struts are under execution.

    AGHIA SOFIA Station: The works for the construction of anchors for the temporary retaining of the southern access and the general excavation works at the northern access are in progress.

  • SINTRIVANI Station: The works for the excavation of the final level -4 are in progress.
  • PAPAFI Station: The works for the excavation of the final level -4 are in progress.
  • PATRIKIOU Station & Crossover: The works for the construction of the the station box was completed. The works for the construction of diaphragm walls of the crossover, the construction of the underground jet grouting strut and the works for the construction of the piles for the western access are in progress.
  • VOULGARI Station: The works for the construction of diaphragm walls are in progress.
  • NEA ELVETIA Station & Crossover: The works for the construction of the piles for the southern access are in progress.
  • DEPOT: At the building complex II, the works for the construction of the pile cap beam in the area of the testing track are in progress.
  • TBM tunnels: Start-up of the 1st TBM for the construction of the remaining tunnel section Nea Elvetia – Analipsi. Assembly of the 2nd TBM within Nea Elvetia Crossover.
  • Cut and Cover Tunnel: The construction of the retaining piles of the tunnel and the construction of the retaining system (anchors, struts) are in progress. Moreover, in progress are the traffic arrangements and the PUO diversions.
