  • ATHENS METRO – Appointment of a temporary contractor for the construction of HOLARGOS, NOMISMATOKOPIO & AGHIA PARASKEVI
The Minister of PEHODE, Mr. George Souflias made the following statement:

“Upon commencement of the construction of the Metro extensions to Elliniko, Peristeri/Anthoupoli, another significant project of the Athens Metro, i.e. the full development of Line 3 with the construction of three new stations, enters the final stretch for its implementation.
Today, the Tender for the construction of HOLARGOS, NOMISMATOKOPIO & AGHIA PARASKEVI was completed and the temporary contractor was appointed.
Unfortunately, as to AGHIA PARASKEVI Station, no construction work has been executed.  As a result it will be required to interrupt the operation of the Metro Line 3, in order to construct the shell of AGHIA PARASKEVI Station for a time period that it will not exceed 6 months.

As a total, 8 major construction firms in Greece and abroad (two consortia and one technical firm) were participated in a tender for the construction of three new Stations of Metro Line 3.

In spring 2007, the construction of the three stations will commence simultaneously and they will be gradually delivered until early 2009 to the passengers. The importance of the said three stations in terms of transportation will be particularly high, since it is provided for that that they will serve more than 60000 passengers on a daily basis, thus reducing the time needed for transportation, e.g. AGHIA PARASKEVI – SYNTAGMA in 12 minutes, while it currently takes at least 45 minutes to cover the said distance by car in peak hour! At NOMISMATOKOPIO Station, which is the Metro Station on Messogion Avenue that people first encounter as they come from the areas of Aghia Paraskevi, Messogia and the eastern coast of Athens, a Transfer Station will be constructed to and from the bus lines, as well as an underground car park area with a capacity of 470 places.”

GENERAL INFORMATION CONCERNING THE THREE NEW METRO STATIONS

The project includes the design, construction and commissioning of AGHIA PARASKEVI Station, as well as the completion of the construction and the commissioning of HOLARGOS and NOMISMATOKOPIO Stations; civil works have been completed to a great extent.

The Group of Companies AEGEK- IMPREGILO S.p.A. – ALSTOM Transport S.A.
was appointed as the temporary contractor.

HOLARGOS Station

HOLARGOS Station is the station which follows ETHNIKI AMYNA Station and is located below Messogion Avenue at its intersection with Faneromenis Street.

The main works which remain to be executed for the Station to be commissioned are as follows:

  • Construction of the main shaft (Level A) of the Station, where the concourse area is located
  • Construction of the two entrances/exits
  • Installation of architectural finishes
  • Installation of electromechanical and railway systems of the Station
NOMISMATOKOPIO Station

NOMISMATOKOPIO Station is located on Messogion Avenue at its intersection with Iridos Street adjacent to National Mint.

The main works which remain to be executed for the Station to be commissioned are as follows:

  • Construction of the eastern entrance/exit
  • Installation of architectural finishes
  • Installation of electromechanical and railway systems of the Station

At the surface area of NOMISMATOKOPIO Station, a Transfer Station will be constructed to and from the bus lines, as well as an underground car park area with a total capacity of 470 places.

AGHIA PARASKEVI Station

AGHIA PARASKEVI Station will be the third Metro Station along Line 3 extension after ETHNIKI AMYNA Station, between NOMISMATOKOPIO & HALANDRI Stations. It is located at a surface of approximately 4000 square meters, among Aghias Paraskevis, Polydouri, Thessalonikis and Ethnarhou Makariou Streets within the limits of the Municipalities of Aghia Paraskevi amd Halandri at a distance of approximately 700 meters from Aghia Paraskevi Square.

Unlike HOLARGOS and NOMISMATOKOPIO Stations, whose shell has already been constructed and whose completion will not affect the Metro system operation, at AGHIA PARASKEVI Station no construction work has been carried out yet. For this reason, during the construction of the Station, when it will be required to demolish a section of the tunnel, it will be required to interrupt the operation of Metro Line 3.

The Station will have two entrances on either sides of Aghias Paraskevis Station, which connects Aghias Paraskevis Square with former Kennedy Square at Halandri. It is developed in 4 levels: the track level, the platform level, the concourse level, and finally a mezzanine  level on condition that it will be able to be removed in case it is decided to create a new road axis in the area.
