ATHENS METRO - COOPERATION AGREEMENT FOR THE CONSTRUCTION OF A CENTRAL INTERURBAN BUS TERMINAL IN ATHENS
The Cooperation Agreement for the construction of a Central Interurban Bus Terminal in the area of Eleonas (Municipality of Egaleo) was signed on 30.05.2012, in the presence of the Minister of Infrastructure, Transport and Networks (YPEMEDI), Mr. S. Simopoulos, by the Chairman and Managing Director of ATTIKO METRO S.A., Mr. Ch. Tsitouras, the Mayor of Egaleo, Mr. Ch. Kardaras, and the Chairman of the Association entitled “Athens Central Station of Greek Interurban Buses” of KTEL, Mr. Sof. Fatsios. The project shall be executed over a section of the recently constructed Depot of the Metro network and close to ELEONAS Metro Station, as foreseen in the Presidential Decree 750d/2005 of the Organization of Athens.
The mutual purpose of the cooperating parties is to construct a modern Interurban Bus Terminal, which will drastically change the services provided to the Interurban Bus passengers at Kifissos and Liossion Bus Terminals, thus, offering perspectives for development in the wider area of Eleonas.
The main objectives of the Central Interurban Bus Terminal project are as follows:
||Provision of high quality services to the approximately 10 million interurban bus passengers per year, thus ensuring organized transfers to/from all urban transport modes (Metro, buses, private vehicles, taxis).|
||Design of a high aesthetics landmark architectural project to attract commercial or other activities.|
||Activate and expedite the procedures for the development or completion of urban infrastructure networks (e.g. local road network, PUO networks) not available in the area of Eleonas.|
||Significantly contribute to the urban re-configuration of the currently industrial and wholesales area into an area with mainly modern third sector business activities.|
It is pointed out that this project actually constitutes a 90 million EURO private investment to be implemented through a tender procedure for the award of a concession contract and is funded by KTEL and private entities (Concessionaire).
ATTIKO METRO S.A. will be responsible for the technical coordination of the designs and the construction of the project and shall monitor the project progress up to the completion stage of the construction works, so as to ensure the desired quality and integrity.
Finally, it is expected that the Municipality of Egaleo shall facilitate the procedure for the issuance of the required permits for the Central Interurban Bus Terminal and shall support the joint effort for the implementation of the project in all issues falling under its competence.
