Peristeri

The procurement of Line 2 extension from Aghios Antonios to Anthoupoli, 1,5 km long, including two new Stations: PERISTERI and ANTHOUPOLI (former THIVON) was completed on April 11th 2006 and the pertinent activities for the construction of the Project commenced in September 2006.

In this way, the most densely populated municipality of the western suburbs, the Municipality of Peristeri, will be served by three Metro stations (AGHIOS ANTONIOS, PERISTERI, ANTHOUPOLI) designed to serve 75,000 passengers on a daily basis.

It is worth mentioning that it will take only 11 minutes by Metro to cover the distance between Anthoupoli and Syntagma, while for the same itinerary 45 minutes are needed at least in rush hour by car.

Namely, with regard to the new stations:

PERISTERI Station is constructed mainly using the C/C method along Panagi Tsaldari Av. where the town hall of Peristeri is located. Thirty per cent of the Station will be constructed using the underground (NATM) method in order to mitigate any disturbance to vehicular circulation since at this point there is a 6-road junction. It is pointed out that on the southern side of the station all the necessary construction works will be executed for the connection with the adjacent underground car park area to be constructed in future. PERISTERI Station will be composed of three levels  with approximately the same outline (11,000 m2 total surface).
ANTHOUPOLI Station is constructed using the C/C method underneath Anapafseos Street between Dodekanissou and Thivon Streets. The new location of the Station resulted from the geotechnical investigations carried out in the area of its initial location opposite Aghios Ierotheos field, where it was identified that the soil was absolutely inappropriate. The construction of the Station where it was initially provided for put at great risk both the project itself and the adjacent residencies, while it would not allow Line 2 further extension to Kipoupoli, Petroupoli and Ilion. For all the reasons mentioned above, Ministry of Development, Competitiveness, Infrastructures, Transport and Networks decided to relocate ANTHOUPOLI Station by approximately 350m southwards. The construction will be such that it will be possible at a later stage to proceed with Line 2 extension towards Aghios Ierotheos, Petroupoli and Liossia.

It is anticipated that the construction of both Metro Stations will enhance, in terms of aesthetics, the area of Peristeri Municipality, thanks to the high aesthetics of the Stations and to the re-development works performed at surface level.

Moreover, ATTIKO METRO S.A. recently put to tender the design for the construction of a Parking Facility adjacent to ANTHOUPOLI Station.
