Project progress

The greatest transportation project ever conducted in Thessaloniki, a modern Metro network of high aesthetics, becomes a reality! More than 650 persons of different specialties are engaged in the Thessaloniki Metro project on a daily basis, while the contracting Joint Venture has already developed a total of 16 worksite areas in the city of Thessaloniki.


PROGRESS OF WORKS

April 2013

The delivery and assembly of the bentonite processing facilities is in progress, as well as the drilling of micro-piles in PATRIKIOU Station;

The works for the construction of retaining struts at level-3 of FLEMING Station are in progress;

The excavation works at the first level of Dimokratias Junction are in progress.


March 2013



The works for the construction of shafts and accesses in PANEPISTIMIO Station area are in progress.

The construction of the 1st level slab has been completed in SYNTRIVANI Station area.

The works for the construction of the underground strut using the jet grouting method are in progress in ANALPSI Station area.

The works for the diversion of PUO networks, as well as the works for the installation of the worksite in PATRIKIOU Station area have commenced.

February 2013



The civil works at the forestation of the New Railway Station and at SYNTRIVANI Crossover have been completed;

The archeological excavations at VENIZELOU Station are in progress;

The construction of the 3rd level at PANEPISTIMIO Station has been completed, while the works for the construction of the 1st level of AGHIA SOFIA Station have been completed;

The works for the construction of the Diaphragm Walls at ANALIPSI Station are in progress.

January 2013

Archaeological excavations at DIMOKRATIAS Station have been completed and, in the coming days, construction works are expected to commence;

The works for worksite installation at NEA ELVETIA and PAPAFI Stations are in progress;

The works for the construction of diaphragm walls at ANALIPSI Station are in progress.

December 2012

Both TBMs have completed the construction of the twin tunnel of an overall length of 11,300m (single track) from NEW RAILWAY STATION up to ANALIPSI Station;

Archaeological excavations at VENIZELOU and DIMOKRATIAS Stations are at a completion stage;

Civil Works have been completed at the forestation of the NEW RAILWAY STATION, as well as at Syntrivani Crossover.

November 2012




The works for the backfilling of parts of the roof slab at PANEPISTIMIO Station and at the branching of the Metro Line at DIMOKRATIAS Station have commenced;

The works for the concreting of the interior walls at EFKLIDIS Station are in progress;

The works for the excavation of the northern shaft at ANALIPSI Station have been completed, while the construction of the Station diaphragm walls is in progress;

The works for the excavation of the Metro Depot area are in progress.

October 2012



The works for the detachment of the Basilica Church and the Tomb have been completed in DIMOKRATIAS Station;

The archeological excavation works have been completed at the Depot;

The civil works at the forestation of the New Railway Station and the crossover of the Line at SYNDRIVANI Station have been completed;

The construction of the diaphragm walls in ANALIPSI Station has been completed;

The preparatory works in PAPAFIO Station will soon commence.

September 2012

To date, the overall progress of the works in Thessaloniki Metro Project is 44.8%;

Tunnel construction works have been completed by 73%;

The archaeological excavation works have been completed by an overall percentage of 75%;

Until the present day, the funds absorbed by the Thessaloniki Metro Project rise to the amount of 282.2 million EURO.

August 2012













The works for the excavation and construction of the foundation slab, as well as the works for the installation of struts at the NEW RAILWAY Station are in progress.

The works for the roof slab’s northern section at Dimokratias Crossover are at a completion stage.

The works for the installation of steel struts at DIMOKRATIAS Station are in progress.

The archaeological works at VENIZELOU and AGHIA SOFIA Stations are in progress.

The works for the dismantling and repair of the diaphragm walls at SINTRIVANI Station have been completed.

The works for the construction of slab at level -2 have been completed, while the excavation works at level -3 at PANEPISTIMIO Station are in progress.

The works for the construction of E/M routing pits and the lift shaft at EFKLIDIS Station have been completed.

The works for the excavation of level -3 at FLEMING Station are in progress.

July 2012


The construction of inner parapet walls at EFKLIDIS Station is in progress.

The excavation works at FLEMING Station are in progress.

The construction of diaphragm walls at ANALIPSI Station is in progress.

The ground slab at the 2nd basement of PANEPISTIMIO Station has been completed.

The construction of the roof slab at the intersection of DIMOKRATIAS Station has been completed.

June 2012



Until the present day, seventy-four per cent (74%) of the archaeological excavations has been carried out and by the end of 2012 all excavation works are expected to be completed. During the archaeological survey, more than 10,000 finds have been revealed, especially along Egnatia Odos. At the current phase, archaeological excavations are being carried out at three locations of the Project: DIMOKRATIAS, VENIZELOU & AGHIA SOFIA Stations.

The two “Metromoles” have already bored over seventy-three per cent (73%) of the Metro tunnels, i.e. 12km of single track tunnel in total.

At EFKLIDIS Station, the first constructed station of Thessaloniki Metro Project, the works related to architectural finishes, as well as the installation of the E/M equipment, have commenced.

May 2012

Train manufacturing in Italy has commenced.

Archaeological excavations have been completed by 73% over the entire project and it is estimated that by the end of the year they will have been completed.

Until the present day, civil works have progressed by 44% in the Thessaloniki Metro Project.


April 2012

The completion percentage of the Civil Works for THESSALONIKI METRO Project reaches 42%, while the tunneling completion percentage is over 72%.

The architectural finishes works, as well as the works for the installation of the electromechanical equipment of the Project have recently commenced.

The archaeological excavations at four (4) locations of the Project (Dimokratias, Venizelou, Aghia Sofia and Depot) are in progress (progress rate: 70%).

March 2012

In Thessaloniki Metro, the two (2) first escalators have been installed at EFKLIDIS Station.

The works for the construction of the roof slab at Sindrivani Station are in progress.

The excavation works for the construction of the slab at level -2 of Analipsi Station are at an advanced stage.

February 2012



The construction of the roof slab at SINTRIVANI Station is in progress.

The works for the construction of slab at level -2 at PANEPISTIMIO Station has commenced.

The works for the installation of the escalator at the northern entrance of EFKLEIDIS Station are in progress.

The archaeological excavation works in a section of EFKLEIDIS Station have been completed, while the works for the excavation of the entire station are about to commence.

The works for relocating the PPC aerial networks into underground networks in the area of the Metro Depot.

January 2012


The works for the backfilling of the archaeological trench of the Basilica church at SINTRIVANI Station are underway, while the station excavation works are in progress.

The excavation works at the western part of Thessaloniki Metro Depot have commenced, while the removal of small structures located at the northern side of this station has been completed.

The construction of diaphragm walls at ANALIPSI Station is in progress.
