THESSALONIKI METRO – Concert of Thessaloniki State Symphony Orchestra in THESSALONIKI METRO PANEPISTIMIO Station

On Friday August 29th 2014, ATTIKO METRO S.A. and Thessaloniki State Symphony Orchestra co-organised a concert in Thessaloniki Metro PANEPISTIMIO Station, which was given before a major number of spectators.
The Station was inundated with Mozart sounds during a concert that created more than positive impressions, proving that Metro and Culture can co-exist harmoniously.

The Mayor of Thessaloniki, Mr. Yiannis Boutaris, stated inter alia that the concert given by Thessaloniki State Symphony Orchestra serves as a special means to realize the extent of the difficulties involved in the Metro project construction. Mr. Yiannis Boutaris congratulated ATTIKO METRO S.A. on its initiative and wished that similar events would be held in other Metro stations.

The General Secretary of Public Works, Mr. Stratos Simopoulos, noted that infrastructures are required in view of revealing Culture and that in a few years from now he is confident that we will have the opportunity to enjoy a similar concert in VENIZELOU Station.

The Chairman of Thessaloniki State Symphony Orchestra and member of ATTIKO METRO S.A. Board of Directors Mr. Konstantinos Zervas expressed his satisfaction on the cooperation of the aforementioned entities, thus providing the opportunity for magical classical music sounds to fill the Metro Station. People who attended the concert were able to verify by themselves that the Thessaloniki Metro Project is not about 13 boreholes but a real project under development.

The Chairman and Managing Director of ATTIKO METRO S.A. Mr. Christos Tsitouras stressed that Technology and Culture were joined on the occasion of this concert and that similar cultural and scientific events will soon follow. He also onted that once all technical problems of the Project are settled and with the cooperation of all agencies involved, the Metro network will be commissioned in early 2018.

On the evening of Friday August 29th, PANEPISTIMIO Station was open to the public for the citizens of Thessaloniki to be informed on the progress of the Project. More than 1,000 people rushed to be guided in this four-level Thessaloniki Metro Station with the greatest depth (35 meters).
