THESSALONIKI METRO – Starting of works at PAPAFEIO Station of THESSALONIKI METRO

A new important for Thessaloniki Metro construction front starts its works as of today with the signing of an easement agreement which, in combination with the expropriation that has already taken place, permits the construction of PAPAFEIO Station.

The notary act was signed today at noon by his Holiness the Metropolitan Bishop of Thessaloniki Anthimos and Mr. Christos Tsitouras, ATTIKO METRO S.A. Chairman and Managing Director in the presence of Mr. Stratos Simopoulos, Secretary General of Public Works.

“The execution today of this notary act concerning PAPAFEIO Station of Thessaloniki Metro is nothing but yet another proof that the current leadership of the Ministry of Development, Competitiveness, Infrastructure, Transport and Networks respects its commitments” said Mr. Simopoulos.

By virtue of the above Notary Act, ATTIKO METRO S.A. is granted the right to proceed with the construction of the underground facilities and the installation of the machinery and equipment necessary for the operation of PAPAFEIO Station, within an area of 2,250m2, which shall be returned to PAPAFEIO Institution at its initial condition, after the construction of the Station.

Further to coordinated efforts made by the Company and PAPAFEIO Institution, all obstacles that used to delay the commencement of the works at the specific station have been raised; this is a key station in serving the area’s residences, since it is located in a densely populated area of eastern Thessaloniki district.

Mr. Christos Tsitouras, ATTIKO METRO S.A. Chairman and Managing Director, stated that, in close cooperation with the political leadership of the Ministry of Development, Competitiveness, Infrastructure, Transport and Networks, ATTIKO METRO S.A. is in the process of settling all pending issues, a fact that will allow the delivery of all worksite areas to the Contracting Consortium and shall expedite the construction pace of Thessaloniki Metro Base Line.
