  • LINE 3 METRO EXTENSION – First Phase of the Tender for the Metro Line 3 extension to Piraeus

The Press and Public Relations Office of PEHODE has issued the following statement:

The Athens Metro, this major project of transportation infrastructure, continues its extension to the areas of Aghia Varvara, Korydallos, Nikaia, Maniatika and Piraeus, with 6 new Stations and 7.6 km of underground line. In fact, this is an investment in the order of 515, 000, 000 € and concerns areas of the Attica Basin systematically neglected during the last decades and underprivileged in terms of transport .In terms of funding, the said project has been integrated in ESPA (National Strategic Reference Framework).

Today, Friday February 13th 2009 the following construction firms submitted the envelopes for expression of interest concerning the first phase of the Tender:

  1. IMPREGILO – ΑEGEΚ ΚΑΤΑSKEVASTIKI – SELI – ANSALDO STS
  2. FCC CONSTRUCCION S.A. – ALPINE BAU GMBH
  3. DRAGADOS S.A. – ΜΟHLOS S.A.
  4. AKTOR ATE- TERNA SA
  5. MICHANIKI SA
  6. J&P – AVAX S.A. – GHELLA SPA – ALSTOM TRANSPORT S.A.

The consortia/firms will be evaluated by ATTIKO METRO S.A., according to the criteria set in the Tender Documents and the pre-selected firms will be invited to submit their Financial Offer for the project at the second stage of the Tender.

The construction works are foreseen to commence at the end of the year, on condition no objections, appeals or other legal obstacles are brought forth by the technical firms participating in the tender procedure.

The daily ridership of Line 3 extension from Aghia Marina (Haidari) to Piraeus is expected to exceed 135 000 passengers, who will be offered the opportunity to enjoy comfortable, safe and rapid trips by metro.
