THESSALONIKI METRO – IMPERIAL COLLEGE

Forty nine (49) post-graduate students (MSc) of the Schools of Soil Engineering, Geotechnical Seismic Engineering and Seismic Geology of the London Imperial College visited a worksite of Thessaloniki Metro in the framework of an educational trip.

The group of students was headed by Professors Dave Potts, Clark Fendon, R. Gail, C. O’Sallivan and G. Dounias.

An extensive presentation of the project was made on Friday may 25th in the ATTIKO METRO/Thessaloniki Metro premises by executives of the company and the Contractor; special emphasis was placed on the geostructural monitoring plan “Kronos”, which is applied in the Project.

After the presentation, the group visited EFKLIDIS station and they were briefed on the construction methodology of Thessaloniki Metro stations, the TBM operation and the procedure related to the building monitoring and evaluation for their protection during the construction of the Project.

The Imperial College students were very interested during their visit to Thessaloniki Metro, because they were presented on a practical and not just theoretical basis with the methods of resolving technical problems.
