The Greek State, recognizing the potential and know-how ATTIKO METRO S.A. possesses in the production of major transport infrastructure projects, assigned the company with the following additional scopes and competencies, by means of a recently passed Bill (Article 145, L.4070/10.04.2012):
- to carry out urban interventions, re-development of public areas, street pedertianization or other traffic arrangements in the wider area where Metro and Tramway projects are constructed,
- to prepare against a fee on behalf of third parties in Greece and abroad transport studies, transport project designs for projects of any nature and stage, management and organization studies, research programs, as well as to render services to third parties pertaining to the support and management of similar projects.
The above item (a.) contributes to the resolution of an important issue that touches the local communities and municipalities in whose vicinity Metro or Tramway projects are constructed, since very frequently the need arises for the execution of additional associated works, which either enhance accessibility to the stations, or contribute to the environmental protection or areas around the stations, since the local road network of these areas is frequently congested due to acute traffic problems springing from heavy vehicular circulation and illegal parking. Therefore in the framework of its above new competence, ATTIKO METRO S.A. is vested with the authority to implement all necessary projects that could enhance accessibility conditions and could contribute to the development / environmental protection of the wider area.
In addition, through the aforementioned item (a.), ATTIKO METRO is also vested with the authority to pursue the implementation of the project pertaining to the reconfiguration of Panepistimiou street and the Athens downtown area in general, in combination with the extension of the Tramway line from Syntagma to the area of Ano Patissia (initially to Egyptou Square).
The experience and the technical expertise of the ATTIKO METRO personnel in the management and design of complex and highly specialized projects is recognized through the above item (b.), enabling thus the company to render technical consulting services to third parties. It should be stressed that according to the above regulatory legislation, the aforementioned technical consulting services are provided in Greece and abroad against a fee, a fact the generates revenue for the company.
