ART PROGRAM FOR THE METRO STATIONS – Works of Art created by distinguished Greek artists embellish the majority of the Metro stations

Work of Art by Christina Sarantopoulou

Within the 27 Metro Stations currently in operation, the “hidden” city as well as our cultural heritage is brought to light through the combined exhibition of significant archaeological articles and artworks of contemporary Greek artists.

The Ministry of PEHODE and Attiko Metro A.E. implement – for the first time in a public project in Greece – an extensive art program through which works of arts created by distinguished Greek artists embellish the majority of the Metro stations. In the framework of this program, the Metro passengers are given the opportunity to admire at the concourse level of AGHIOS IOANNIS Station the artistic intervention by Christina Sarantopoulou, entitled “The city unites the human dissimilarity”.

This work represents a synthesis of eight fingerprints, which move constantly revealing a metal map of the Station’s area.

The art program of Attiko Metro A.E. is also implemented in the Stations of the Athens Metro Extensions, while it will be implemented in the Stations of Thessaloniki Metro, as well.
