Based on the scheduling announced by the Minister of the Environment, Mr.George Souflias in October 2004 with regard to the tendering and the construction of the Athens Metro extensions, today the first stage of the Tender for the “Extension of Line 2, Aghios Dimitrios – Helliniko” (cost estimate: 330 million euros) was completed with the preselection of the consortia which can participate at the second stage of the tender. Concurrently, the selected consortia were invited to participate in Phase B’ of the Tender.

With regard to the above the Minister of the Environment, Mr.George Souflias made the following statement:

“The Tender for the Metro extension to Helliniko advances rapidly, namely the procedures have been expedited by three months in relation to our initial scheduling. Following a change made to the design of the project, with a slight difference to the budget, the new extension of the line will be constructed entirely below surface. In this way, the solution of the bridge along Vouliagmenis Avenue, whic would create significant sound and visual disturbance. We have ensured the funding of the project which has been definitely integrated into the Cohesion Fund based on the last revision. The project shall commence to be constructed in early 2006 and shall be delivered in mid 2009”.

In detail:

Following ATTIKO METRO’s S.A. resolution, out of the eight Companies/Consortia of greek and foreign companies, the following four companies met the criteria set in the Tender Documents:

  • IMPREGILO – ΑΕGΕΚ – SELI – ALSTOM TRANSPORT
  • AΚTOR Α.Τ.Ε. – SIEMENS A.G. – VINCI CONSTRUCTION GRANDS PROJECTS
  • ALPINE MAYREDER BAU GmbH – OBRASCON HUARTE LAIN S.A. – TERNA S.A. – POWELL ELECTRICAL SYSTEMS INC.
  • J&P – AVΑX S.A. – F.C.C. CONSTRUCCION S.A. – ELECNOR S.A. – INSTALACIONES ONABENSA S.A.

At the same time, the aforementioned consortia were invited to participate at Phase B’ of the Tender and tomorrow Friday 29th July 2005 they will receive the tender documents(final design of the project, specifications,invitation to tender, and the remaining information material) in order to submit their Financial Offer for the project until September 8th 2005.
The Tender is expected to be completed in autumn.
The project concerns the construction of an underground tunnel, 5.5 km long, the creation of four new stations and an underground area for the storage of 8 trains.

LINE 2 EXTENSION – AGHIOS DIMITRIOS (ALEXANDROS PANAGOULIS)- HELLINIKO

Length of underground tunnel: 5.5 km
4 new stations  (ILIOUPOLI, ALIMOS, ARGYROUPOLI, HELLINIKO)

Underground area for the storage of eight trains

  • Transfer Stations and Car Parks at ARGYROUPOLI and HELLINIKO Stations
  • Overall budget of the Construction Works: 350,000,000 €
  • Service of transportation needs of 80,000 passengers on a daily basis
  • Direct access to the four stations: 34,000 passengers in the surrounding areas
  • Work positions accomodated: 18.000
ENTRANCES – EXITS OF THE STATIONS

All new Stations have entrances/exits on either sides of Vouliagmenis Avenue that can be used as underpasses. In particular, the entrances/exits in each Station are located on the following streets:

It is worth mentioning that the distance from the city center (SYNTAGMA Station) up to HELLINIKO Station will be covered in 14 minutes, while by car in peak hour it takes more that 50 minutes to cover the same distance!
