Extension to Kalamaria

The Expansion to Kalamaria, which is already in an advanced construction phase, includes 5 new Stations (Nomarchia, Kalamaria, Aretsou, Nea Krini and Mikra) located along an underground line 4.78 km long.

It is expected that upon completion of the project, the daily ridership shall rise to 63,000 passengers. In addition and as a result of the project’s operation, the number of the circulating private vehicles shall be reduced by approximately 12,000 vehicles / day, and the respecting CO2 emissions shall be reduced by 43 tons per day. The distance between Mikra Station and the center of the city shall be covered in just 15 minutes

This project will undoubtedly upgrade Kalamaria Municipality in terms of transport services and the environment, while it shall also substantially improve the quality of the citizens’ daily lives.

PROGRESS OF WORKS

November 2014

  • NOMARHIA Station & Crossover: The works concerning the diversion of the 1stbranch of the sewage pipe through TBM underground boring have been completed. The works for the diversion of traffic from Mitropoliti Kydonion Grigoriou street into a new street within the area of the former Farmaki camp have commenced;
  • KALAMARIA Station: The works for the diversion of PUO networks are in progress;
  • NEA KRINI Station: The construction of the Station’s pile retaining system, the excavation of a section of the Station at a depth of approximately 9m, as well as the works for the diversion of PUO networks are in progress;
  • MIKRA Station: The construction of the Station’s pile retaining system (prestressed anchors, shotcrete) and the works for the diversion of PUO are in progress.

  • NEA KRINI Station: The works for the diversion of PUO networks have commenced, while the works for the construction of perimeter piles, as well as excavation works at the Station, are in progress;
  • MIKRA Station: The works for the diversion of PUO networks have commenced, while the excavation and temporary retaining works at the TBMs access shaft are in progress;
  • The preparation of designs is at an advanced stage.
